Getting traffic to your blog

Seems these days everyone has one ~ a blog that is. Once you have a blog up and running and some visitors coming it's important to build a relationship with those readers. You want to keep them coming back. You want them to tell their friends about your blog, this will build your readership and word of mouth traffic is easily monetized.

Email is a great option for traffic. You can use it a couple different ways. You can burn a feed with feedburner that will allow people to subscribe to your blog via email. This will let them read your posts in their own email. You can also start building a list of readers with an autoresponder. When someone subscribes to your list they give you permission to send them emails. This can be a quick teaser message about your latest post to get them to come to your blog.

An opt in list. This is a great way to get access to your readers. You need an autoresponder service for this one, but it's worth it. Create, have made or purchase a great piece of work on your blog's subject, then offer it for free to your readers. Once they give you their email address to get the free gift you can then email them. This can be an affiliate offer, or encourage them to come to your newest blog post. It's always smart to offer free stuff to your list once in a while too.

Understand your readers. Conduct a simple survey for your readers to understand their profile and advertising preferences. Ask consumers to give you feedback on a post, an ad link, or a trial that you shared. In this way, it is like interviewing your readers without the commitment and intrusion of a face-to-face interview.

Join the club. The club of blogs that is. There are quite a few blog networks around where you can get together with other bloggers in your niche. By joining these networks you can swap links, and end up sharing traffic. You can get some good feedback on your blog as well as new ideas for topics to blog about.

Use RSS. RSS is the fastest growing technology on the Internet today. As such, having RSS feeds to your blog is definitely another means of generating awareness for your readership base. Having a variety of feeds can add interest to your blog site.

Maintaining a relationship with your readers can seem complicated, but it really isn't. You just need to keep them in mind while you are blogging, and write what they want or need. The more you make your readers happy the more they will tell others about you, which leads to more traffic. It really is a win/win.
