Having Trouble Managing Your Adwords Campaign? Change the Headline!

By George Curtis

A good Adword campaign starts with a good headline. A great Adword campaign starts with a great headline. And knowing how to write great headlines is a very valuable skill in any business. The failure to understand how critical this skill can be is a huge mistake that we see from both Adwords newbies and professional Adword management companies.

Good keyword research and bidding skills may get your ad shown in a top ad position when someone does a search, but if you don't have a compelling headline, you may be wasting a lot of money. On the other hand, you can have poor ad placement, ranking near the bottom of the page, but if your headline sticks out, then you will end up "stealing" clicks from your higher-ranking competitors.

So if you don't know how to write good headlines, where can you start? Start by looking at some of the ads that appear when you search for your keywords in Google. Now, if you are a student of mine, you already know my philosophy about the top ad position. Hint: "The top ad position is not always the place you want to be, and the company advertising there, does not necessarily know what they are doing." But there ARE instances when the top ads will have the best headlines. Look at those ads and pay attention.

Another method that I like is to use a research tool, such as Spyfu or Keyword Spy to see which ads of a competitor have consistently been in positions #4-6. Many times you will find that your competitor affords to rank lower because they have strong headlines that out-convert higher-ranking ads. Read those headlines and learn from them as well.

Also, it may be beneficial to look OUTSIDE of your industry for Adword headline ideas. How about a real (at the time of this writing) live example?

Let's say I am writing an ad for an attorney and need an inspiring headline. I will now search for a babysitter to get ideas. So I just typed "need a babysitter" into Google and here is an incredible idea from an ad whose headline is: "Need a Local Babysitter?" I love the word "local". I can now use the headline "Need a Local Attorney?" or write another headline that includes the word "local". At the time of this writing, a quick search on "need an attorney" showed no ads on the first page using the word "local." My ad would definitely stand out!

You may be wondering, "Can I steal headlines? Is that plagiarism?" There is no rule that says you cannot use the same headline your competitor is using. But you must remember, 99% of the time the advertiser is doing SOMETHING wrong. So if you are going to copy a competitor, I suggest you copy only what works. Sure, I like to look at competitors' ads and take notes. I even recommend starting a digital "swipe" file, where you take headlines that you really like and copy them to a document and keep adding to that file for future reference.

There are many free resources on the web that can train you to write good headlines and we will cover some great headline-writing techniques in a later article, but the most important thing is that you recognize your return for investing time into learning how to write a great headline. If you can't afford to invest your time, then hire a copywriter who knows how to write headlines and ad copy for search marketing ads. Many Adwords management companies also have specialists who are experts in writing headlines and ad copy that can turn otherwise so-so advertising into highly successful Google Adwords campaigns.

Effective List Building & Driving Traffic to Your Squeeze Page

By James T Maxwell

As an internet marketer, you are aware of how essential your email list is. That list is your money maker. What you need is a means by which you build on that list, bringing traffic to your squeeze page. There are a few great ways of doing this, such as Pay Per Click, Affiliate Marketing and Article Marketing.

PPC or Pay Per Click

PPC marketing could be the most efficient means of driving traffic. It's efficient because it is quick, as well as its tracking ability.

When you use Pay Per Click marketing your goal is breaking even. You're building your list, so making a huge profit isn't necessary at the moment. By getting 100 people each day added to your list and break even doing it, you're doing everything right.

Success with Pay Per Click has its own little trick, which is continual testing and improvement. You'll have an easier time getting something that is almost ready to being ready than you would making an attempt to start over with a different idea all together.

Article Marketing

Article marketing is a slower but cheaper way to get traffic to a website. With article marketing, you pay with time instead of with money.

Here's how it works: You write a bunch of articles and submit them to article directories. Article directories are crawled regularly and your content will get indexed quickly. If you chose good keywords and used good SEO principles, your article will rank highly and you'll get traffic.

Generally, article marketing involves doing a lot of work for a little bit of traffic. If you keep working at it though, that little bit of traffic can turn into a whole lot of traffic over time.

Affiliate Marketing

There's a little secret to affiliate marketing: Having good statistics. Many experts in the field of internet marketing will agree using AdWords to test your stats, or some other marketing tactics before any potential affiliates are approached.

You can do a lot of refining using PPC. It's usually best to do that refining before you approach your potential affiliates. Why? If an affiliate promotes your product and it doesn't convert, your bridge is burned forever. On the other hand, if an affiliate promotes your product and it does convert, then they'll likely keep promoting your product again and again.

Besides, unless your statistics are strong, you normally won't be considered for big JV projects. The majority of the big names aren't keen on doing business with first timers. There is more of a risk in that scenario of them losing money.

Nobody wants to use their traffic to test someone else's marketing. You can't expect your affiliates to want to send you traffic unless you can provide solid statistics on how your page converts.

Getting Traffic to Your Squeeze Page

These are three of the top ways to get traffic on your squeeze page. Pay Per Click, Affiliate Marketing and Article Marketing are there for you when you're ready. Remember, each of these techniques have had their own bit of responsibility for the success of many businesses. Nobody said you need to be perfect at everything. Simply doing one exceptionally is a great place to start.

Building Links Is Not as Hard as You Think!

When people ask me why they aren't getting traffic or making any sales the first thing I ask them is how many links have you built back to your site. It's the most important piece of the puzzle and one that many new internet marketers just don't understand. If you want the search engines to rank you in the results page you have to be building links. Here are a few ways to build some links.

Blog comments. This is an easy way to start building links. It will also get you some direct traffic if you do it right. You can use software to find blogs that are related to your site, but you can also just go to Google blog search and put your keywords in. When you find a blog similar to your, read the post and then if you have something to say you can make a post in the comments. You can put your keywords in the name field and your url in the url field. This will create a link back to your site. There are many nuances to this technique so look at the other comments and see if others are doing this before you do. Make sure you add some value in your comment. Don't just write "nice site, I like it" that is not valuable and your comment will most likely be deleted.

Another great way to build links is by writing articles. Writing articles can be tedious and boring, but it is a great way to quickly and easily get your links out there. You can send out mass submissions, which is best done with some sort of software. You should also send your articles to ezinearticles.com. It has quite a bit of pull and your articles are likely to show up in google for your keywords, which can get you a lot of traffic by itself, if you have written a good article and have a resource box that calls people to click through. Make sure you have keywords in your links out of your resource box ~ those are your links you are building.

RSS is a relatively new technology. Even so, it can be a great way to start building links to your site. You simply get your RSS feed url and submit it to a variety of RSS directories and feed aggregators. You will get a link back to your site for each post you make. The link is usually the title of your post, so make sure you use keywords in those titles.

Free content platforms. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of places online that will allow you to put your content on their server for free. These sites are a dream come true for those building links back to their sites. You have control of the content and therefore you can make sure your links have the perfect anchor text. These free platforms may be free blog sites, free wiki type sites, and of course squidoo. Make sure you read the terms of service for each before you start, as each site's rules are a little different.

As you can see building links to your site is not very complicated. It can be time consuming and relatively boring, but it's just one of those things you have to do to see search traffic. If you fail to build links back to your site you can pretty much expect not to see much search engine traffic. A big hit of traffic from stumble can feel good on the stat counter, but you may be surprised that even after 1000 visitors you haven't made a dime. Work on building links, so you can get some search traffic. It may take a little more work, but you will actually make some money.

Getting traffic to your blog

Seems these days everyone has one ~ a blog that is. Once you have a blog up and running and some visitors coming it's important to build a relationship with those readers. You want to keep them coming back. You want them to tell their friends about your blog, this will build your readership and word of mouth traffic is easily monetized.

Email is a great option for traffic. You can use it a couple different ways. You can burn a feed with feedburner that will allow people to subscribe to your blog via email. This will let them read your posts in their own email. You can also start building a list of readers with an autoresponder. When someone subscribes to your list they give you permission to send them emails. This can be a quick teaser message about your latest post to get them to come to your blog.

An opt in list. This is a great way to get access to your readers. You need an autoresponder service for this one, but it's worth it. Create, have made or purchase a great piece of work on your blog's subject, then offer it for free to your readers. Once they give you their email address to get the free gift you can then email them. This can be an affiliate offer, or encourage them to come to your newest blog post. It's always smart to offer free stuff to your list once in a while too.

Understand your readers. Conduct a simple survey for your readers to understand their profile and advertising preferences. Ask consumers to give you feedback on a post, an ad link, or a trial that you shared. In this way, it is like interviewing your readers without the commitment and intrusion of a face-to-face interview.

Join the club. The club of blogs that is. There are quite a few blog networks around where you can get together with other bloggers in your niche. By joining these networks you can swap links, and end up sharing traffic. You can get some good feedback on your blog as well as new ideas for topics to blog about.

Use RSS. RSS is the fastest growing technology on the Internet today. As such, having RSS feeds to your blog is definitely another means of generating awareness for your readership base. Having a variety of feeds can add interest to your blog site.

Maintaining a relationship with your readers can seem complicated, but it really isn't. You just need to keep them in mind while you are blogging, and write what they want or need. The more you make your readers happy the more they will tell others about you, which leads to more traffic. It really is a win/win.
